Friday night Brando and I went to see Ballet Under the Stars, as we have for the past four years.
Each year on an early summer evening the Austin Metamorphisis Dance Ensemble puts on an incredible ballet literally under the stars. Each year has it's own theme - one year it was the 60s, one year it was a sad, tragic story, and this year it was a rocker theme. And they did both Brando's and my current favorite songs. His being Simple Man by Shinedown and mine being Rolling in the Deep by Adele.
Summertime by Janis Joplin
Paint it Black by Vanessa Carlton
Desperado by The Eagles
Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers
Simple Man by Shinedown
Rolling in the Deep by John Legend (current hit song by Adele)
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
The first time we went I had to literally drag Brando there. I told him, look, just go for ten minutes and if you don't like it we'll leave. He finally agreed, and within ten minutes was as enamored as I was. This isn't your Grandma's ballet - they take ballet to a whole other level. Now, it's a yearly tradition we look forward to and realize is happening every year just in the nick of time.
