Blog Rhythm

I've noticed every blog has a rhythm, whether it be a steady beat of weekdays, every two days, or an uneven beat driven by whenever the world stops spinning long enough to kick out a post. I've even seen some people churn out a number of posts a day. I believe blog rhythm is one of the keys to a successful blog if you're concerned about readership. What is the magic number? I think that depends entirely on whose blog you're reading or writing and what their or your life lends itself to. I read blogs that only update every few months, but that's where their life is at right now. Because I entered their blog life at a time when they were posting more often I cherish the words I get to read when they do post. My own blog rhythm changes and flows with the tide. Right now it seems my hot days are Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with a few random posts thrown in on the other days. What is your blog rhythm?

My blog's rhythm is really sketchy. There are whole stretches of time where I don't post because I feel so lethargic and don't want to put anything out there that is total crap. There are other weeks that are exciting and that gives me the energy to write something. Right now, I am in the former-- a nice slump.

I try to limit my posts to twice a week, as my posts are long and no one would take the time to read that much daily.

This week, I've already posted far more than normal... Three posts in as many days... But it was for good reason. I had to chronicle the Chicago blogger meet-up. And I had to announce my latest grad school news.

I used to post around 9:30am everyday, but that's just how my schedule was and when I was most inspired. Since then, I've graduated and my job determines posting times as well as how lame my life gets. So somedays I have alot to say and other days- meh... I don't always think some of the minor details are post worthy.

I have absolutely no rhythm nor rhyme to my blog posting, it's totally random. I think we're the same way, we post when we can and occasionally I'll have two-a-days then go 4 days without posting! crazy. xoxo

I usually post during the weekday because I'm at work and it's usually really slow! On weekends, I'm much slower usually :)

I feel mine is when I think someone might want to know what I have been going through. . . or when I'm really upset about something and have to get it off my chest.

That's a cool thing to notice. I was just wondering myself which do I prefer: a blog that has generally long posts but only twice or so a week, a blog that has shorter posts every day (picture posts or links) or a mixture of both?

I try to post Monday - Friday, some posts long and some very very short. This doesn't always go as planned.

I dont think I have a rythm, but I do know I tend to post every day, twice a day, a bit overkill. I actually told myself not to post anything in 2 days, just to see if my blog content improve.

I'm the same as GFF. Lately, I've been blogging less often. I feel like for survival purposes with this deployment, I've gone into routine-stay-busy mode: I drive to work, work all day, drive home through the traffic, try to eat dinner before Wheel of Fortune's over so my food can settle, get to the gym by 7:45, work out for a little over an hour, then head home and get ready for bed.

Some days I'm busy, some days I'm sad about the whole deployment thing, and some days I have too much to say in one post.

My blog rhythm is definitely abnormal right now!

I actually try to post stuff everyday, even if it includes tasteless and boring entries... that's how I scare potential readers away.

Hey there! Glad you found my blog! I've been well, all things considered. I think one day I'd like to have my own practice, but that's very far in the future. We'll need to plan another trip to Austin soon, or you might need to come up here. Hope you're doing well.

I aim for 2-3 times a week. But I often travel for work, which makes my posting a bit all over the place.

an excellent observation. :) I try to post 2-3 times a week, but have been slipping lately... (even though I have SO MUCH to tell the blog world... school stuff, work stuff, wedding stuff, dreams, fears! I swear I write two posts a day in my head!!!) I'll get back on track, I promise!

Kate - do you have a website? It doesn't show up when I click on your name.

Angela - Grad school news and blogger meetups are definitely blog rhythm breaking worthy : ) . Your pictures were great!

a.p. - I agree with you about the minor details not being so important. Sometimes so much that I have to remember to put some of them in so people can actually follow what's going on in my life.

gff - Lately I've been having to force myself to post the fun times and good posts - I love looking back on those!! I've just been enjoying life and the times I want to post are blah times that aren't blog worthy : ) .

Traci Anne - Must be nice to have that kind of job : ) !!

Chele - I've tried that before. Did it work for you?

Newnorth - Ah, it'll get back soon. Sometimes change knocks everything out of whack for awhile.

Brilliant - I can't imagine what you're going through. That's sometimes the best time to blog though, when you just need to get it all out.

Goose - I like a mixture of both. Sometimes the long ones give a lot more indepth info, but it's nice to have the short posts too because they're an easy read. You do great at both!

Periodic Encounters - As if a blog with a banner to do with chemical reactions (I think?) could have anything to do with boring.

Al - It's probably closer than you think! It's so crazy how time flies it's probably closer than you think! That would be awesome to do another girls night. I've been thinking about coming up there for a night sometime. Maybe in the summer.

Larissa - Traveling makes for fun posts!

Courtney - Your posts are so entertaining and always make me laugh. It's enough to hold anyone over for awhile until you post again : ) !

Yeah, my blog has no rhythm. I am good at posting for a while, then drop off the face of the earth for a while.

One thing consistent is that I very rarely ever blog on the weekends. Too busy!
