So Brando and I had a loooong conversation today. We've really been off track as far as being on track where money is concerned. He uploaded all our stuff into Quicken and got the automatic updates from the credit cards and home loan and auto loan and such set up and then showed me the how he broke things down. Sheesh we need to be making a lot of money to survive.
It doesn't help the massive credit card debt we've ensued being virtually unemployed the last year. That's three quarters of our apartment right there. It's been a necessary evil because we still need to live. We just need to live a little barer than we're used to for a bit before we can refinance the house to bring down the payments for the debt and start bringing in those checks a little more. Even then it'd help to live on the bare minimum so we can take some VACATIONS sometime : ) . Yeah, we deserve one of those.
On the cute side, Shawners wonders out of his room tonight with his eyes still all sleepy like and passes us on his way to our room. Brando asked him what he was doing and he says, "I-I just need Mommy." and he came over and curled up into my lap.

I need to sit down and do a budget, too! Have you ever heard of Dave Ramsey? My friends paid off loads of debt on his plan. Of course, they had to cut back, but I think if you both as a couple hold each other accountable, it's a big help. I'm thinking about getting back on the Dave Ramsey plan myself. The great thing about it is that you can really see where every bit of your money goes, and that is a good feeling.
I have a book that I am going to send to you. Got your email and I have one coming back your way, hopefully I'll get time this afternoon. HUGS!!
Ugh! The debt monster has me too. :( I definitely need to tighten my belt a little - but I can't seem to do it. There is just so much that I wnat to do!!! And everything costs money. :(
yep pretty sure we bounced three checks this month. Not three no big deal checks. We are talking first check to son's preschool, mortgage, you kow those BIG things. geeesh! Misery in numbers I guess!
I'm with you on the debt thing. It sucks, but at least you're not in it alone! And at least gas prices are going down -- that's a huge help!
That Shawners story is so cute! I bet that just made you feel so special and so much better!
Laura, it's so funny you mention Dave Ramsey. Another friend of mine mentioned it Sunday to our small group so when you mentioned it I looked it up and it turns out the guy doing our class had mentioned his book, Financial Peace University, on Sunday as well.
Allison, I can't wait for it! I talked to a Mom at J's chess club today and I was blown away by how her 10 year old is already opening a mutual fund and how he does chess tournaments for the money in them and how she works their allowances. I'd love to be able to do that for my kids!
Courtney, Glad to know we're not the only ones. Isn't it true everything costs money? That whole necessary evil thing.
Alyssa, I was in shock when B showed me a separate column for overdraft protection with our debit card!! I'm with you there and had no idea!
Brilliant, The Shawner story did make me feel better. So much so that the next night we went grocery shopping and I threw in a six pack of Blue Moon with the comment, "We're all going to hell in a handbasket any way." Which is funny because if I think about it what does money have to do with God? Except it's all His any way. I've been trying to give up even THAT, that I think I should control, and realize it never was mine in the first place and He has power in all areas. Yay for gas going down! Maybe we should get a gas guzzling SUV after all. Just kidding :) !
